and they became the Prophet’s sworn enemies. They laid thorns in the path of the Noble Prophet عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, pelted stones at his blessed body, brought down immense suffering and calamities, and hurled taunts and abusive language. They did not stop there; rather, whoever had the good fortune of embracing faith in the Beloved Prophet عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, these wretched people would subject them to various kinds of torment and calamities, striving to turn them away from Islam. They would flog some of them on their backs with whips in the scorching heat of the Arabian desert, as hot as an oven, then lay them face down on burning sand, placing such heavy stones on their chests that they could not turn.

They would brand others with hot iron rods, immerse some in water to the point of suffocating, and wrap others in a mat and blow smoke into their nose, making it difficult to breathe. In short, such atrocities were committed that had a mountain been subjected to them, it may have crumbled. But, look at the sacrifices of these embodiments of patience and contentment! They neither showed impatience nor cried out nor expressed their sufferings to anyone when faced with calamities and troubles; instead, they remained content with the will of Allah Almighty, stood firmly in the face of difficulties and troubles, and attained special closeness to Allah Almighty.

(3) The month of Muarram also teaches us patience and contentment. This is the very month when the incident of Karbala occurred, where the evil Yazīd and the wretched armies of Ibn Ziyād committed such atrocities in the plains of Karbala against the grandson of the Prophet, the venerable Imam usain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, his family, and other revered personalities, that merely thinking about them makes one's soul tremble and hair stand on end. In response, the display of patience and contentment by these personalities is truly worthy of emulation.

(4) To develop a mindset of patience in calamities, recall the torments of Hellfire. Indeed, the greatest calamity in this world cannot even compare to the mildest torment of Hellfire. The Noble Prophet عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم
