The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم instructed us to be truthful and avoid lying. He declared:

You must tell the truth, for indeed truth leads to virtue, and indeed virtue guides to Paradise. A man continuously speaks the truth and endeavours to tell the truth, to the extent he is written as truthful with Allah.

Beware of lying, for indeed lying leads to sin, and indeed sin leads to Hell. A man continuously lies and makes an effort in lying, to the extent he is written as a liar with Allah.^[1]
