Status and rank of Ghaus-ul-A’zam

Shaykh Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Bin Ahmad Bin Qudamah رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه says: Sayyiduna Shaykh ‘Abdul Qaadir Jeelani رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه made great efforts to seek knowledge. He sought knowledge from many great scholars of the time as well as famous and renowned pious elders, which resulted in him becoming the highest ranking scholar from the scholars and pious elders of his time. He رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه went through so much difficulty and hardship to attain knowledge. At the end, He رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه disconnected himself from worldly matters and engrossed himself in the remembrance of Allah Almighty and calling towards righteousness. He became highly acclaimed across the globe, the dignity of religion became apparent through him, the ranks of knowledge began to elevate due to him and the group of Islamic jurists gained strength through him. A large number of Scholars turned to him and gained the honour of being his student. Many Fuqara, erudite scholars and highly ranked spiritual guides were bestowed with the crown of Khilafah from him as well. (Nuzhat-ul-Khaatir-il-Faatir, pp. 19, 20, summarised)

Shaykh Muhammad Bin Yahya رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه states: When Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه graduated from his studies, he was assigned to the position of teaching and issuing Fatawa. Along with this, he رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه engaged in calling people towards righteousness, illuminating the Noor of knowledge and making people practical Muslims. Hence, scholars from around the world would come to learn knowledge from his Noble Court. At that time, there was no one on his level in Baghdad. (Qalaaid-ul-Jawahir, pp. 5, summarised)

He رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه was an ocean of knowledge, when his teachers gave him the Sanad of ‘Ilm-ul-Hadees, they said to him: O ‘Abdul Qaadir, we are giving you the Sanad relating to the ‘Words of Hadees’ but the reality is that we gained an understanding of meanings and import of Ahadees from you.
