right ear and iqāmah in his left ear and then asked Sayyidunā ꜤAlī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, "What name have you given to this noble son?"
He replied, "O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! How could I name him without permission, but now that you have asked, I think he should be named 'Ḥarb', and the noble Prophetصَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is free to choose." Then the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم named him Ḥasan.[1]
His younger brother, Sayyid al-Shuhadāˈ, Imam Ḥusayn رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was born on 5th ShaꜤbān, 4 Hijri, in Madinah al-Munawwarah. The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم named him "Ḥusayn" and "Shabbīr", while his teknonym is "Abū ꜤAbdullāh", and his titles are also "Sibṭ al-Rasūl" and "Rayḥānat al-Rasūl" (the flower of the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم). Like his elder brother, he رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ is also chief of the youth of Paradise.[2]
What kinds of names should be given
Dear Islamic brothers! We just heard that the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم himself suggested the names of his beloved grandsons. In this regard, let us listen to some etiquettes of naming children.
Remember! Giving good names is one of the rights of children and is also the first and fundamental gift from parents to their child, which they hold on to throughout their lives. Even when the Day of Gathering is established, they will be called before their Generous Lord by that very name. Just as it is narrated from Sayyidunā Abū al-Dardāˈرَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ that the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “On the Day of Judgment, you will be called by your names and your fathers' names, therefore, give yourselves good names."[3]
