Remaining Sunnahs and etiquettes of shaking hands and embracing

*   It is Sunnah for there not to be any barrier, such as a handkerchief etc., between the hands when shaking hands; both palms should be empty and the palms should touch each other. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 16, p. 98)

*   Shake hands whilst smiling and displaying warmth. If possible, recite the following Du’a after sending Salat upon the Prophet: یَغْفِرُ اللہُ لَنَا وَلَکُمْ (i.e. May Allah Almighty forgive us and you).

*   People shake hands with each other after every Salah; this is permissible. (Rad-ul-Muhtar, vol. 9, p. 682)

*   Embracing is proven from the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم too. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 16, p. 98)

*   Do not embrace anyone if you are only wearing a sarong or pyjama, rather, you should have a shirt on, or at least wrap yourself in a shawl. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 16, p. 98)

*   It is permissible to embrace on Eid. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 16, p. 98)

*   It is permissible to kiss the hands and feet of a scholar. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 16, p. 99)
