and refraining from sins. We should always remain fearful of His hidden decree as well. Let us now look at some actions which lead a person to become worthy of receiving Divine mercy.
1. Engaging in the remembrance (zikr) of Allah
One action that makes a person worthy of receiving Divine mercy is to perform the zikr of Allah Almighty. In this, there is the peace of the heart and safety from illnesses and distress. Performing the zikr of Allah removes poverty. The one remembering the Almighty is always a recipient of Divine mercy. The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said that ‘Allah Almighty states: ‘When a person remembers Me, I am with him. If he remembers Me whilst alone, I also make mention of him alone. If he remembers me in a gathering, I make mention of him in a better gathering. If he comes a handspan’s distance closer to Me, My mercy becomes an arm’s length closer to him. If he comes an arm’s length closer to Me, My mercy becomes two arms’ length closer to him. And if he comes walking towards Me, My mercy comes running to him.’ (Bukhari, vol. 4, p. 541, Raqm 7405)
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Another deed which makes one worthy of receiving Divine mercy is the fear of Allah; this facilitates the action of refraining from sins. The fear of Allah creates concern regarding the Hereafter; one who possesses this trait shall attain two heavens, and shall be granted a palace made of green pearls. Hell is forbidden for the part of the face upon which a tear flows with the fear of Allah Almighty.
Sayyiduna Nadar Ibn Sa’d رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has said: ‘When tears flow from the eyes of an individual due to the fear of Allah, Almighty Allah makes his face unlawful for Hell. If those tears flow over his cheeks, then he will neither be disgraced nor oppressed on the Day of Judgement. And if a grief-stricken individual cries with the fear of Allah among some people,
